ABOUT CARD WEAVING

Card weaving (also known as tablet weaving) is a way to create patterned woven bands and belts.

Though cards are often regarded as a simple tool, the weavings they can produce are infinite in design and complexity.

The portability of card weaving makes it possible to carry the equivalent of a four harness loom in your pocket.

You can use weaving cards on their own with a simple tensioning device, such as tying the yarn to a doorknob and tensioning around your waist. Or use the cards on a loom, an inkle loom is ideal, but you can also use them on a rigid heddle, tabletop multi-shaft loom or floor loom.

YARN SUGGESTIONS

For inkle loom weaving look for yarns that have the following characteristics: smooth, strong and relatively inelastic. Perle cotton (also known as mercerized cotton) in size 3/2 or size 5/2, embroidery floss, cotton rug warp, linen or firmly twisted wools are all suitable.
