SEPTEMBER EDIT | Highlights + Yarn Guide

SEPTEMBER EDIT | Highlights + Yarn Guide

It’s a little late but here’s a round up of my favourite new release patterns for September 2023.

I’ve scoured Ravelry and Instagram for the latest releases and distilled my favourites down to a collection of 8 stunning yet very wearable styles.

The comfy cardigans stole the show, but I’m still loving all the opportunity for colour play and texture amongst the featured designs.

As per usual, I want to knit them all!

You’ll find my pattern notes and yarn suggestions below. Each design has its own yarn kit, with sizing and yardage requirements detailed.

Have fun exploring the September Edit.

OBSERVATIONS | Collection Highlights + Yarn Guide

OBSERVATIONS | Collection HIGHLIGHTS + Yarn Guide

Observations: Knits and Essays from the Forest is a knitted walk through the forest and the seasons.

With a keen eye for the innate wonders of the natural world, Lotta H Löthgren combines knitwear designs with notes on the landscape she calls home: a small village in the southeast of Sweden, nestled among forests and lakes. There, she spends her days writing, knitting, designing knitwear and hand-dyeing yarn.

Observations includes nine knitwear patterns for long-lasting, wearable garments and accessories, along with essays about living a life close to nature. The patterns have been created in a quiet conversation with the land, drawing elements from the natural world and translating them into stitches and fabric.

“This book is the meeting between myself and my homeplace, seen from a very human perspective but told alongside the low hum of the soil,” Lotta says.

Observations is available now, find your copy HERE.

MILLSTONE COLLAR | A Free Knitting Pattern

MILLSTONE

The once essential community millstone has with time become symbolic of the labour and effort we put into our work. From the physical strength required to grind our grain into flour or our dogged determination to turn raw fleece into a hand worked garment, this symbol of effort and transformation is still relevent today. It reflects our commitment and the time given to each project we undertake. The Millstone collar, with its deep garter furrows reminiscent of the millstones cutting face, is with a touch of irony a quick and easy project that you might just finish in a single afternoon. Knit flat from end-to-end in the ultra-soft Yana XL from Amano Yarns, the Millstone collar is a striking accessory and the ultimate layer for a Melbourne winter.

DESIGN NOTES

The Millstone collar is worked flat from end-to-end.

A simple 4 row repeat with short row shaping produces a subtle crescent that hugs the neck and shoulders.

The stocking stitch edge folds inwards, lifting the piece around the nape of the neck adding elegance and structure.

The simple construction lends itself to experimentation, play with yarn, gauge and stitch counts to take this project further!
